Bayethe)

Shamwari Game Reserve consists of 20 000 hectares (49 000 acres) malaria-free,
private game reserve located in the Eastern Cape of South Africa. Situated
at the end of the Garden Route, only 45 minutes by road from Port Elizabeth,
this award winning, internationally recognized reserve is about conserving
a vanishing way of life and is the realization of one mans dream and many
people’s passion. It boasts five eco-systems, thus enabling the
support of many forms of plant, animal and bird life. History was made
in November 2001 when a portion of Shawmari became the first privately
owned Wilderness area in the Africa.
Accommodation is offered in six separate luxury lodges. Long Lee
Manor, originally built in 1910, offers a distinctive Colonial
experience. Bayethe Lodge is a 5-star, luxury lodge comprising
of 9-tented suites. A magnificent bushveld-type lodge made of stonewalls
and thatch, accommodates the lounge, dining room, an outdoor banquet boma,
swimming pool and viewing deck overlooking the Buffalo River, a tributary
to the great Bushmans River.
Shamwari’s highly trained game rangers will accompany you on morning
and evening game drives where amongst other things they will introduce
you to current research and conservation projects. The Reserve is host
to a Born Free Foundation Centre providing a sanctuary for big cats that
have been rescued from captive conditions. The reserve has a complete
wildlife research team as well as it’s own anti-poaching unit.
Shamwari is an African dream, a game reserve in which plant, animal and
bird life unfold the very soul of an untamed continent, along with the
most luxurious means of experiencing your safari holiday.
